Financial Stability Workshops

Budget Basics - This course introduces the concept of forming a budget or a spending plan. Attendees will receive instruction on how to analyze their income and simply track their weekly and monthly bills. We will focus on the emotional aspect of spending and value systems related to money. 

Spending and Saving – This interactive workshop will take a look at ways to save on basics like food and clothing. You will come to understand the difference between needs and wants. The attendees will also learn how to save for short term and long-term goals by educating themselves as a consumer. We will discuss how the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) can be used as savings for emergencies or unexpected expenses.

Credit Basics – Through this workshop, we will unravel the mystery of credit and credit reports. We will examine the ways credit is analyzed to produce a credit score. Credit affects our ability to spend and save money. Attendees will learn how to get, keep and manage their credit. We will review how to read a credit report and how to contact the 3 credit bureaus to correct mistakes on a report. 

Avoiding Debt at the Holidays – Attendees will learn ways to save on holiday shopping. We will look at the pressure to have a perfect holiday and the guilt that leads to over spending. Practical examples will be given to save on gifts and start new family traditions. 

Rent Ready – This workshop is ideal for the first-time renter whether they are leaving the family home or experiencing a change of circumstances that makes them consider renting. We will look at the costs of renting including setting up a home and how to start utility accounts. Attendees will analyze the hidden costs of renting including how location impacts transportation and child care costs. We will explore how the EITC can ensure housing stability.

Raising Your Sights, Raising Your Salary – One way out of poverty is to find a higher paying job. The workshop will teach you some of the soft skills that give an employer confidence to promote you. This course will help you build a wardrobe for your next job with a $100 budget. We will learn about body language and do's/don'ts for the workplace.

Heading towards Homeownership – Monthly rent can often be more expensive than a mortgage payment. If homeownership is a goal, this course will help you prepare. We will review how to use budgeting, credit and debt management to achieve your goal. Attendees will hear about local programs that can help you with qualifying for a mortgage and down payment assistance. 

Entrepreneurship – Covid has taught us that nontraditional employment is here to stay. In this course, we will review each client’s marketable skill sets. We will determine how to turn hobbies and talents into a self-employment situation that provides income and flexible hours.

Money Basics for Teenagers – This course ties the basics of earning money to understanding budgeting, saving, and spending money. We will review credit basics and how to start good money habits now. Students will be introduced to the concept of entrepreneurship and how to find work to meet short term and long-term financial goals.
